Penn State World Campus renews partnership with Graduate! Philadelphia

July 31, 2012

Since Graduate! Philadelphia (G!P) got started, the organization dedicated to helping Philadelphia area adults complete a college degree has helped 1,500 adults return to college. About 200 adults have graduated, and 7,000 more are exploring their education options. Penn State, a long-time G!P partner, recently renewed its commitment with the organization. This fall, Penn State's online campus, World Campus, will send admissions and advising staff to the G!P Center, located at 9th and Market Streets in downtown Philadelphia, to talk with prospective students about online programs.

"We value our partnership with Graduate! Philadelphia," said Bill Fritz, associate director of Penn State Continuing Education and World Campus Admission Services. "G!P's goal aligns directly with the World Campus' mission to serve the needs of adult learners. For busy adults, online courses offer the flexibility needed to pursue education while balancing multiple responsibilities."

Hadass Sheffer, co-founder of Graduate! Philadelphia and president, Graduate! Philadelphia/The Graduate! Network Inc., said, "Since 2005, Graduate! Philadelphia has put the issue of adults completing college on economic and workforce development agendas in Philadelphia. Retention rates in college for G!P students are at 95 percent, which is a strong indication that they are on track to finish the degree they once started and recently resumed. We are constantly on the lookout for value-adding practices and partners, and we are delighted to partner with Penn State"s World Campus; this creates exciting new options for our students."

Currently, more than 11,400 students worldwide are enrolled in World Campus professional certificate, associate, bachelor's and master's degree programs.

"Given what adults have to balance, their own needs or interests rank last on their 'to do' list," said Tish Szymurski, chief learning officer for Graduate! Philadelphia/The Graduate! Network Inc. "Online education helps adults put themselves among their own priorities by tailoring a schedule that works best for them to complete their course work. A university such as Penn State, that brings academic prestige and innumerable resources to its programs, places itself firmly at the core of the value Graduate! Philadelphia brings to adults and the college completion agenda in the Greater Philadelphia landscape."

Penn State World Campus specializes in adult online education, delivering more than 80 of Penn State's most highly regarded graduate, undergraduate and professional education programs through convenient online formats. World Campus is part of Penn State Outreach, which serves more than 5 million people each year, in all 67 Pennsylvania counties, all 50 states and more than 100 countries worldwide.
