Women's lacrosse places 18 on ALC Academic Honor Roll

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's lacrosse team placed 18 of its members on the ALC Academic Honor Roll for the 2011-12 academic year, the conference announced Thursday (Aug. 9).

Among the Nittany Lion honorees are all five student-athletes who received postseason conference accolades, including ALC Goalkeeper of the Year and first-team league member Dana Cahill (Towson, Md.). Fellow First Team All-ALC honoree Lizzy Carney (West Chester, Pa.), as well as second-team members Tatum Coffey (Toms River, N.J.), Maggie McCormick (Eldersburg, Md.) and Theresa Zichelli (Severna Park, Md.), also earned Academic Honor Roll recognition.

In addition, Cahill, midfielder Aly Adams (Springfield, Pa.) and defender Colleen Shea (Baltimore, Md.) were honored as ALC Academic Honor Roll members for the fourth straight year. Five freshmen were also recognized for their academic prowess following their first year in the classroom, including midfielder Coffey, defender Cat Layne (Downingtown, Pa.), midfielder Kelly Lechner (Silver Spring, Md.), defender Erin McAfee (Moorestown, N.J.) and attacker McCormick.

In all, 123 student-athletes from the league's seven institutions were recognized. Student-athletes who maintained a grade-point average of 3.0 or better during the 2011-12 school year were eligible for the Honor Roll.
