Traveling to, from and through University Park is a system that includes buses, cars and bicycles using hundreds of roads, parking lots and sidewalks. The Transportation website simplifies it all to help Penn Staters get to where they need to go.
Visit the website for travel alerts, event parking information and bicycle registration. Facebook is another avenue for information regarding Transportation news, alerts and programs. The unit offers many programs that are environmental, convenient and money saving. Below are some important aspects every Penn Stater should know when planning their commute to campus this semester.
Bicycles
Bicycling is very popular at University Park. All bicycles must be registered with Transportation Services. There are hundreds of bike racks and paths for students, faculty and staff to use throughout campus. Biking is great for the environment, your health and your wallet.
Buses
Transportation Services works with the local bus service, CATA, to provide safe, convenient transportation to and from campus. There are free buses -- the Loop and the Link -- that circulate through campus. There are also buses that travel into many areas of the Centre Region.
Campus Shuttles
The Campus Shuttle is a free service that loops through parts of campus every weekday -- excluding holidays. The shuttle provides service every 15 minutes between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. View a map (pdf) of the campus shuttle’s route. Penn State also offers a Paratransit Shuttle that runs a similar route with service every 20 minutes, but includes stops at the center of campus. There is also daily shuttle service to the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey.
Fleet
Penn State Fleet Operations provides a variety of vehicle services for the University community. Cars and vans are available for rent for business and campus group trips. Drivers also are available. When Fleet is done with them, used cars and vans are also sold auction at Lion Surplus.
Parking
The Penn State Parking Office works hard to make parking on campus as convenient as possible. Contact the office to get a parking permit for your car. The staff can answer questions about day-to-day parking, as well as parking for big campus events. Staff members are also located in the campus parking decks and kiosks.
