A new academic year is under way

August 28, 2012

Penn State Mont Alto welcomed approximately 350 first-year students into its residence halls last Friday, Aug. 24. Among them were six international students -- two students from China, one each from India and the Dominican Republic, and twins from the Netherlands.

The academic year was officially opened at the Founder's Convocation Ceremony during orientation weekend Saturday.

Over the summer break, the physical plant was busy with several campus improvement projects including installation of new concrete sidewalks, fencing along Slabtown Road and an additional emergency phone. A new veterans' memorial plaza outside Conklin Hall was also installed; it will be officially dedicated on Sept. 11, 2012. Additionally, the campus' science and technology building received upgrades, including a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit, landscaping, corridor lighting and ceiling tile. The gym floors were refinished and new scoreboards were installed.

  • Freshman Austin Pacini and his mom, Carrie Pacini, arrive at Mont Alto Hall after a long drive from North Carolina. They display the blue and white blanket she made for him before his start at Penn State. Pacini is majoring in computer engineering.
