Grant-writing workshops now open for registration

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Graduate School at Penn State is holding a series of grant-writing workshops for advanced graduate students and postdoctoral scholars throughout the fall semester. The workshops are guided by principal investigators in engineering; physical sciences; life sciences; quantitative social sciences; qualitative social sciences; medical sciences; and arts and humanities. Students may attend only one discipline-specific workshop and registration is limited to 50 participants. All discipline-specific workshops will be held in Room 102 Kern Graduate Building. In addition, the medical sciences workshop will be presented live at University Park and will be broadcasted by videoconference to students wishing to participate at Hershey in room HCAR 1103.

An introductory workshop to grant writing also will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the Assembly Room at the Nittany Lion Inn. This workshop will assume no prior experience with grantsmanship and is open to all graduate students regardless of program. The workshop will emphasize the basic aspects of grant writing, including types and sources of funding, grant terminology and characteristics of fundable proposals. Registration also is required for this workshop.
