EE graduate student Srinivas wins IEEE best paper award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Umamahesh Srinivas, a graduate student in electrical engineering, won the best student paper award at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, held July 22-27 in Munich, Germany.

He was recognized for the paper "Discriminative Graphical Models for Sparsity-Based Hyperspectral Target Detection."

The research is a collaborative effort between the laboratories of Vishal Monga, Srinivas' adviser and assistant professor of electrical engineering, and Trac Tran, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

Their joint research is funded by the Office of Naval Research.
