Penn State Harrisburg to hold RAINN Day events Sept. 27

Penn State Harrisburg will hold events in recognition of RAINN Day on Thursday, Sept. 27. The programs, “Reducing the Risk of Sexual Assault” and “Men and Healing,” are free and open to the public.

RAINN Day is an annual campaign held by the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), a national anti-sexual violence organization, to “raise awareness and educate students against sexual violence on college campuses.”

Held from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the Library’s Morrison Gallery, “Reducing the Risk of Sexual Assault” will define sexual assault and the laws regarding it; the importance of a sexual assault forensic exam (SAFE) as part of the healing process; and practices to reduce the risk of becoming a sexual assault victim. Held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Olmsted Building’s Gallery Lounge, “Men and Healing” will explore the cultural myths that men are entirely capable of protecting themselves from sexual violence. A documentary, "Boys and Men Healing," will be shown, followed by an open discussion.

Both events will be presented by the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg and sponsored by the Penn State Harrisburg Commission for Women. Other events sponsored by the commission this semester include:
