Women's soccer team's Rodriguez named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State women's soccer freshman Raquel Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica) has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Rodriguez scored one of Penn State's two goals in a 2-1 victory over 13th-ranked Wisconsin.

The freshman has contributed five points this season on two goals and one assist. She is Penn State's second Freshman of the Week winner as Mallory Weber (Novi, Mich.) earned the honors on Aug. 20.

One of Costa Rica's top players, Rodriguez has been a fixture on the youth circuit, leading the U-17 team to the FIFA World Cup in 2008, scoring once, while helping the U-20 team to the 2010 World Cup as well.
