Sinha awarded Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Medal

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Alok Sinha, professor of mechanical engineering, was presented with a Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Medal on Oct. 12 by the Non-Resident Indians (NRI) Welfare Society of India.

Sinha, one of 30 Indians worldwide to receive the honor, accepted the award at the House of Lords in London. The medal recognizes outstanding services and achievements by Indians in the international arena.

A member of the Penn State Mechanical Engineering faculty since 1983, Sinha has research expertise in vibration, control systems, jet engines, robotics, neural networks and nanotechnology. He holds a doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University in 1983, an master of science from the University of Kentucky in 1980 and a bachelor of technology from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi in 1978, all in mechanical engineering.

The NRI Welfare Society was founded with the objective of strengthening ties between India and non-resident Indians.
