Former men's golfer Foley tops leaderboard at Web.com Championship

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- After earning a spot on the PGA Web.com Tour, former Penn State men's golfer Kevin Foley continues his journey to becoming the first Nittany Lion to qualify for the PGA Tour through his competition at the Tour Championship Oct. 25-28. After round one at the TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas Thursday, Foley sits tied for 13th place with a 3-under-par score of 68.

The Web.com Tour (formerly the Nationwide Tour) was founded in 1990 and is the primary developmental circuit for the PGA Tour. As a three-time All-American from 2008-10, Foley is the first golfer from Penn State to earn full status on the Web.com Tour. In order to reach this status, Kevin needed to earn $9,000. He blew this amount away at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational, where his fifth place finish was good for $32,000.

Foley qualified for the season-ending Web.com Tour Championship by earning a 54th place finish at the Jacksonville Open a week prior. The top 60 on the money list at the Dye's Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra beach, Fla. earned bids to the finale.

Foley holds the Penn State record for most tournament championships, with six under his belt. In his impressive Nittany Lion career, Kevin achieved 16 top 10 finishes and 20 top 25 finishes.

The final top 25 at the Web.com Tour Championship will earn 2013 PGA Tour cards. Overall winner of the final tournament will receive $180,000 from the $1 million purse.

Foley will continue round two of the Championship Friday at the TPC Craig Ranch.
