Police warn of theft risks during holiday breaks

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- University Police are urging faculty and staff to secure money and valuables before leaving their offices during holiday breaks due to an increase in burglaries and thefts when classes aren't being held on campus.

Offices with cash, and easily accessible and portable electronic devices have been targeted by thieves the past several years. Police strongly encourage securing materials in alarmed areas or taking home easily transported valuables. Staff also should use this time to make sure alarm and camera systems are functioning properly and that the systems are armed before leaving. If possible, police advise having local staff periodically check on offices during Thanksgiving and winter holiday breaks.

University Police and Public Safety can be reached any time at 814-863-1111.
