Marriage equality advocate to speak at Fayette campus

The local community is invited to hear Zach Wahls speak on marriage equality at noon Nov. 28, in Swimmer Hall, located in the Williams building at Penn State Fayette.

In 2011, Zach Wahls addressed the Iowa House Judiciary Committee in a public hearing regarding a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in Iowa. The then-19-year-old son of a same-sex couple, Wahls proudly proclaimed, “The sexual orientation of my parents has had zero effect on the content of my character.” Hours later, his speech was posted on YouTube, where it quickly received more than 2 million views.

Wahls will be sharing his experiences with the campus and community. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Office of Student Life at 724-430-4248.
