Enrollment now open for free, six-session youth health program

November 14, 2012

Penn State Hershey Center for Nutrition and Activity Promotion (CNAP) is launching Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity & Nutrition! (We Can!) Energize Our Families, a national education program from the National Institutes of Health to prevent obesity among youth ages 8 through 13.

The We Can! Energize Our Families program is a free six-session program offering dynamic activities for parents or caregiver to discover ways in which they can achieve a healthy weight in their family. These fun, hands-on sessions will demonstrate essential skills that encourage making healthy food choices, becoming more physically active and reducing recreational screen time. In addition, youth ages 8 to 13 will participate in a weekly one-hour session with Dave Brixius, owner and professional trainer at Explosive Sports Performance. These sessions will involve actively learning simple and fun physical activities that can be done at home to reduce sedentary time.

One-hour sessions will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. every  Tuesday from Jan. 8 through Feb.12, at Penn State Hershey Medical Group -- Nyes Road, 121 Nyes Road, Suite A, Harrisburg. Registration is free but is a requirement for attendance. Those interested are urged to register early at www.nrgbalance.org/wecan.

For additional information or to register, contact Barbara Blatt at 7147-531-1440 ext. 4 or bblatt@psu.edu. Additional sessions will be offered throughout the year.
