World Campus faculty gather for convocation

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- On Nov. 13 and 14 the World Campus held its annual Faculty Convocation, bringing together more than 200 faculty and staff at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center to learn about effective online teaching from each other.

The program featured Al Turgeon, professor emeritus of turfgrass management, who delivered a keynote presentation titled "A Compelling Case for Online (Distance) Education."

During the program, The Certificate for Online Teaching was announced. The Certificate features five online courses on effective online instruction. Two faculty -- Roxana Gearhart and Yasmin Villuendas, lecturers in Spanish -- were the first to earn certificates, which were presented at the convocation.

Several sessions during the convocation, including the keynote presentation on Nov. 14, were streamed online and are archived at http://wpsu.org/live/convocation/.

The third annual World Campus Faculty Convocation will again be hosted at the Penn Stater on Nov. 13 and 14, 2013. For more information and other Faculty Development events, email psuwcfacdev@outreach.psu.edu or call 814-863-4966.
