Nominations sought for 2013 Shirley Hendrick Award

The Commission for Adult Learners is seeking nominations for the 2013 Shirley Hendrick Award, which recognizes a senior University administrator who has contributed significantly to advance programs that benefit adult students.

Nominations should be forwarded for administrators University-wide, including associate/assistant deans, chancellors and directors. In March, the 2013 award will be presented at the Faculty/Staff Awards Luncheon. The recipient also receives a stipend of $1,000 and is recognized at the annual Hendrick Best Practices for Adult Learners Conference. The next conference will be held May 9 at Penn State Harrisburg.

Shirley Hendrick (1936–2000), associate dean for continuing education in the Smeal College of Business and the inaugural chair of the Commission for Adult Learners, was the first honoree. Hendrick was a tireless advocate for adult learners.

The Commission for Adult Learners is the administrator of the Shirley Hendrick Award. Comprised of faculty, staff and students from throughout the University, the commission is dedicated to improving the adult learner experience at Penn State.
