Penn State Williamsport Center partners with James V. Brown Library

December 05, 2012

Penn State Continuing Education Williamsport Center and James V. Brown Library are partnering on a new initiative designed to increase awareness of the educational opportunities available to adults in the Williamsport area.

As part of the partnership, the Williamsport Center now has a weekly presence in Brown Library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Computer Room. Mike Vines, adult learner support specialist with the Williamsport Center, is available to talk with adults about the center's professional education certificate programs and associate, bachelor's and master's degree programs, and answer questions about how adults can take the first step toward earning a college degree.

"This is definitely a worthwhile opportunity," said Vines. "The James V. Brown Library is a great location for meeting with adults who are visiting the library themselves or with their family members. It gives me an opportunity to tell them about the Williamsport Center's programs."

Barbara S. McGary, executive director of the library, said, "The James V. Brown Library is very happy to work with Penn State Outreach to provide a venue for adults returning to school to learn about new opportunities."

Brown Library champions the love of reading, opens doors to lifelong learning and provides a haven to those who seek information. More than 1,000 people visit the library daily seeking information, entertainment and enrichment.

In addition to having a weekly presence in Brown Library, the Williamsport Center is working with the library on educational programs for adults. Upcoming events include these Information Sessions:

-- Thursday, Jan. 24, 6 to 8 p.m., "Going Back to College: How to Get Started"

-- Saturday, Feb. 23, 1 to 3 p.m., "Penn State Continuing Education Degree Completion Options in Williamsport"
