UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Fans planning to attend any of Friday’s events on the east side of the Penn State University Park campus are encouraged to arrive early and should note changes that will assist with traffic flow and parking.

With Penn State’s annual Homecoming Parade starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, several traffic and parking restrictions will be in place for the men’s hockey game vs. Clarkson at 7 p.m. at Pegula Ice Arena. Additionally, the women’s soccer team hosts Maryland at 7 p.m. Friday at Jeffrey Field, a short distance from the parade route and hockey game.

Former Lady Lion basketball student-athlete and ESPN/ABC correspondent Lisa Salters is the Homecoming grand marshal. Penn State’s 99th Homecoming football game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, against Michigan State in Beaver Stadium.

Traffic restrictions

To accommodate the Homecoming parade route, the following campus roadways will be closed from approximately 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday:

  • Porter Road (partial – see General Parking below)
  • Curtin Road (from Porter Road to Bigler Road)
  • Bigler Road (from Curtin Road to Pollock Road)
  • Pollock Road
  • Shortlidge Road (from Pollock Road to College Avenue)
  • College Avenue (Shortlidge Road to Burrowes Road)

Men’s hockey parking information for Friday, Oct. 12

Premium parking

Premium parking at the sections of Lot Yellow H near Shields Building and Wagner Building will open at 5 p.m. and remain available until 5:45 p.m. Friday. Access to these lots will be available only by traveling north on University Drive and west on Curtin Road. Shields and Wagner premium permit holders who arrive after 5:45 p.m. will be redirected to Stadium West.

Access to premium parking at Lot Orange F will remain available throughout the evening, but due to parade route restrictions, all vehicles attempting to reach this lot after 6 p.m. Friday must do so by traveling north on University Drive, west on Hastings Road, and northeast on McKean Road.

General parking for men’s hockey and women’s soccer

General event parking will be available in the Stadium West lot and Jordan East for $5 (cash only), with no charge for vehicles with a valid Penn State parking permit or hockey parking voucher. Fans attending Friday’s men’s hockey contest are strongly encouraged to park in Stadium West (via Park Avenue), as access to Jordan East will be limited and delays in this area are expected due to parade float staging.

Fans attending Friday’s women’s soccer match will be able to park in Stadium West (via Park Avenue) using normal game day parking procedures for ticketed event conflicts.

Porter Road will be closed between Park Avenue and Jordan East from 5-6 p.m. During this time, access via Porter Road to the Jordan East parking lot will be from the College Avenue side of Porter Road using the Porter 5 entrance only and Dauer Road. There will be no access to the Jordan East lot on Porter Road from the Park Avenue side from 5-6 p.m. due to moving parade floats from below Medlar Field at Lubrano Park onto Curtin Road. After 6 p.m., Porter Road will be re-opened to normal traffic.

Access to Stadium West is available only from Park Avenue, and with Curtin Road and Porter Road set to close at 6 p.m. Friday, fans arriving after 6 p.m. Friday will only be able to reach Park Avenue from the I-99/U.S. 322 interchange, Atherton Street, and Fox Hollow Road.

Safety reminders for pedestrians

All fans walking from parking areas are reminded to use the designated sidewalks and the cross walks at the intersections surrounding Pegula Ice Arena. Please avoid crossing mid-block due to the high traffic volume expected during the evening hours with less visibility.

ADA parking

ADA parking for Friday’s men's hockey game will be available at the southwest corner of Stadium West near the intersection of University Drive and Curtin Road. This parking area is only accessible via Park Avenue. A valid state-issued ADA placard or license plate is required, along with a valid Penn State permit, hockey parking voucher, or payment of the event parking fee.

Fans may use the circle at Lot Yellow H South near Gate C for drop off and pick up. Please note, however, that no public parking is available at Lot Yellow H South.

No overnight parking on Friday

All vehicles must be removed from all event parking lots before midnight on Friday in advance of Saturday’s home football game.

Although there aren’t any athletic events on the West side of campus on Friday night, fans should be advised that Burrowes Road will be closed from 5:30 p.m. to midnight due to the homecoming parade and the Guard the Lion Shrine event at the Lion Shrine. Burrowes Road from Pollock Road to Curtin Road and Curtin Road from Allen Road to Atherton Street, will be closed until midnight.
