Abington

Abington offers diversity tactics seminar to strengthen bottom line

Many executives aspire to describe their businesses as flexible, adaptable and durable. A crucial avenue toward achieving these goals is a diverse workforce. Research shows that innovative, productive and profitable businesses can trace their results to the successful partnership of workers with different backgrounds and experiences.

The Business Case for Diversity: Tactical Strategies for C-Suite Executives in Health Care and the Private Sector will be offered by the Penn State Abington Office of Continuing Education to demonstrate critical tools to maximize and capitalize on diversity. The March 15 breakfast seminar is open to professionals on a variety of levels who can discover methods to implement diversity programs that yield:

-- A measurable impact on long-term success including return on investment and employee retention and satisfaction.

-- Increased contentment among investors/stakeholders.

-- Cultural competency and diversity-related conversations within the organization.

Two area professionals with practical and theoretical experience will lead the seminar. Meghan Patton is vice president of human resources and chief human resources officer for Abington Health. More than 6,000 health care professionals and staff, and 1,400 physicians are employed by the health system. She will be joined by an expert on diversity leadership, Jan Dreachslin of the Penn State Great Valley School of Graduate Professional Studies. She is a professor of Health Policy and Administration and co-professor-in-charge of the master of business administration program. Abington Continuing Education presents this program in conjunction with the college’s Center for Intercultural Leadership and Communication (CILC). The March 15 session runs from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on the historic Abington campus.
