Seven to receive Distinguished Alumni Awards in 2013

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Board of Trustees today (Jan. 18), selected seven Penn State alumni to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award, the University's highest award for an individual. Following are the 2013 Distinguished Alumni, their year of graduation and current title:

-- Shani J. Allison of Novi, Mich., is a program management analyst for the Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich. She earned her bachelor’s degree (2001) from the College of Engineering.

-- Dr. Alan D. Bedrick is the chief, Section of Neonatology and Developmental Biology, a professor of pediatrics and the Arizona Elks Endowed Chair in Pediatrics at the University of Arizona, College of Medicine. A resident of Tucson, Ariz., he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology (1974) from the Eberly College of Science and his doctorate of medicine from the College of Medicine (1978).

-- Eugene B. Chaiken is the chairman and CEO of Almo Corporation in Philadelphia. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration (1962) from The Mary Jean and Frank P. Smeal College of Business and resides in Bryn Mawr, Pa.

-- Robert E. Fenza of West Chester, Pa., is the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Liberty Property Trust, located in Malvern, Pa. He earned his bachelor's degree in philosophy (1980) and is associated with the College of Arts and Architecture.

-- James Thomas Harris III is the president of Widener University in Chester, Pa. He earned his doctoral degree in higher education (1988) from the College of Education and resides in Wallingford, Pa.

-- William A. Jaffe of State College, Pa., is the principal/owner of the Jaffe Group. He earned his bachelor's degree in journalism (1960) from the College of Communications and is the retired vice president of Towers Perrin.

-- The Hon. Thomas J. Ridge of Chevy Chase, Md., is the former governor of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the founder and CEO of Ridge Global LLC, located in Washington, D.C. He earned his juris doctorate (1972) from The Dickinson School of Law.
