Abington to host Empty Bowls Dinner to aid hungry

Penn State Abington invites the local community to the campus' inaugural Empty Bowls Dinner beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, in the Lares Building.

Abington students organized the event to raise money for people still struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Food Banks of Monmouth and Ocean Counties in New Jersey, one of the areas hardest hit by the superstorm.

A simple dinner of soup and bread will be served to remind attendees of the empty bowls that sit on the tables of the less fortunate. Performances will take place throughout the night. Guests will take home a hand-crafted bowl as to remind them of the empty bowls on tables throughout the world.

Admission is $10. For directions, go to www.abington.psu.edu/directions.
