January 22, 2013

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- The Penn State Lehigh Valley men's basketball team is joining the Penn State Lady Lions efforts to raise money and awareness of breast cancer issues by hosting a Pink Zone event during their Feb. 9 game against Penn State Greater Allegheny beginning at 6 p.m. at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pa. The event is free and open to the public. Donations toward Pink Zone causes can be made in the lobby during the game.

A variety of activities are planned for the event including pre-game scrimmages by local youth basketball teams, half-time contests for kids, face painting, and pictures with the Nittany Lion. In addition, Penn State Lehigh Valley nursing students and Lehigh Valley Health Network's Women's Breast Services representatives will provide health information in the lobby. Official Pink Zone T-shirts are currently on sale at the Penn State Lehigh Valley bookstore and also will be available at the game.

The 2013 Pink Zone at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Feb. 24 as the Lady Lions take on Michigan in the Bryce Jordan Center. Last year, the Lady Lions donated a record $203,000 to breast cancer causes. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital and Lewistown Hospital. For more information on the Pink Zone at Penn State, visit the official Pink Zone website at
