Students to compete in MATHCOUNTS competition at Penn State Fayette

 Nearly 80 students from seven school districts in Fayette and Greene counties will be participating in the 2013 MATHCOUNTS competition held at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. This competition will begin at 9 a.m. Feb. 5, in the Maggie Hardy Magerko Auditorium in the campus’ Community Center.

MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory. The annual event challenges students with various mathematical problems and equations. Students from the following schools will be participating in this year’s competition: A.J. McMullen Middle School, Albert Gallatin North Middle School, Albert Gallatin South Middle School, Benjamin Franklin School, Connellsville Junior High School, Frazier Middle School, Lafayette School and Margaret Bell Miller Middle School.

Kevin Maxwell, mathematics instructor at Penn State Fayette, said, “The MATHCOUNTS competition is always a fun day for the students and volunteers, and we are so happy to have the continuing support of the schools in the area.”
