School of Engineering names director for research, technology transfer

Greg Dillon has been named associate director for research and technology transfer by the School of Engineering at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. In this new role Dillon will have responsibility for expanding the school’s research initiatives, increasing collaboration with industry and further integrating research and development activities into the undergraduate engineering curriculum.

Dillon joins the campus from Penn State’s University Park campus, where he was deputy division head for the Applied Research Lab’s (ARL) Composite Materials Division. Prior to working at the ARL he was principal engineer for advanced development at Northrop Grumman in Bethpage, N.Y.; senior design engineer at Lawrie Technology in Girard; and assistant director of the Composites Manufacturing Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dillon earned bachelor and doctoral degrees in materials engineering from the University of Limerick, Ireland. He is the author of over 30 publications and co-author of two books, and holds five patents.

A member of the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) and the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Dillon also will be an associate professor in the School of Engineering.
