Napoli re-appointed to national committee

Mary Napoli, associate professor of literacy education at Penn State Harrisburg, has been selected to serve a second term on the committee that chooses the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children. Her second three-year term runs through 2015.

The NCTE Poetry Committee, consisting of education scholars from throughout the nation, every two years recommends a living American poet for the award in recognition of their lifelong work. The group also preserves the award winners’ poetry collection, held in the University of Minnesota; recognizes and encourages excellence in children's poetry; and connects teachers and children with poetic publications, programs, and displays.

Napoli holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from The Pennsylvania State University. She previously worked at Elizabethtown College and taught kindergarten and first grade in the Pocono Mountain School District. She is the co-author of five books and textbooks.
