Moments of Change

While every era produces innovations and masterpieces, some periods of history are particularly marked by great cultural and artistic contributions, scientific breakthroughs, and political development.

These transformative periods are the inspiration for the Institute for Arts and Humanities "Moments of Change" initiative, a new annual series of symposia, performances, lectures and other events that will examine a specific groundbreaking historical time period during each academic year.

In honor of Moments of Change's inaugural year, titled "The Early 17th Century and the Roots of Modernity," we offer this slideshow. We hope it will whet your appetite for spring semester's Weiss Seminar Lectures, a fascinating line-up of weekly talks on the early 17th century by distinguished invited scholars and artists.

"Moments of Change" events are made possible in part through the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Weiss Seminar Lectures are funded by the Josephine Berry Weiss Chair in the Humanities Endowment.
