Booker-Booker with EPR

biochemist Squire Booker in the lab

Biochemist Squire Booker, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and Penn State's only Howard Hughes Investigator, studies how reactions catalyzed by radical SAM enzymes work. His lab uses the instrument shown here, an electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometer, to analyze iron-sulfur clusters on the enzymes. Disruptions in radical SAM enzymes can lead to serious health problems including Type II diabetes, congenital heart disease, ALS, and increased susceptibility to viral infection.
