World War II veterans

Show at right, Luther Kolarik, 94, a sergeant assigned to the Third Marine Air Wing at Miramar Naval Air Station (now Miramar Marine Air Station) in California, who trained as a radar technician. Kolarik enlisted at 17, while in his third semester at Penn State. He was 19 years old when the picture on the left was taken and was on active duty from July 1, 1943, until June 24, 1946. After his discharge, he returned to Penn State, graduating with a bachelor of electrical engineering in 1949. "I had a wonderful 45-year career as an electrical engineer and for that I will be forever grateful to the United States Marine Corps," said Kolarik.
