Forging History-at the dig

students excavating at Tel Akko

Penn State students excavating on Tel Akko in 2018. The site was industrial through much of its history, with abundant signs of skilled trades including bronze working and the production of pottery, glass, and “royal” purple dye. The discovery of massive amounts of slag suggested that ironworking could be added to that list.
