Ramiah's first birthday

While being cared for by Brittany Wright, a respiratory therapist at Penn State Children’s hospital, one-year-old Ramiah Martin lets out a silent cry on Dec. 12, 2018. The silence was due to her being born with a rare condition called tracheal agenesis; she didn’t have a trachea. A 3D printed device was surgically implanted as a scaffold to help Ramiah’s esophagus serve as a replacement for her missing trachea.
