cells look like floating orbs

Artwork by Sarah Pfaff, graduate student in the Plant Biology Program, titled “Regeneration.” In this false color fluorescent light micrograph, the floating orbs are cells from the mouse-ear cress plant that have been stained to reveal cellulose fibers. After being experimentally stripped of their cell wall, these cells have begun the process of wall regeneration by laying down bundled cellulose fibers in various elegant patterns.
