"Transection of Anatomical Planes"

Transection of Anatomical Planes sculpture

While participating in a Digital Stone Project residency at Garfagnana Innovazione in Tuscany, Italy, in summer 2015, Cristin Millett used a CNC router to create Transection of the Anatomical Planes, a marble dissection table incised along the coronal, sagittal, and transverse planes of the body. The piece stems from her ongoing research on Renaissance-era anatomy theaters, amphitheater-like spaces where medical students observed dissections. It was recently exhibited as part of Millett's Coronal Plane installation at Asymmetrick Arts in Rockland, Maine.
