Story: Libraries' Virtual Open House offering digital badges through Sept. 24
Penn State University Libraries is offering its annual Open House for students and faculty who wish to acquaint themselves with services, collections and resources available to them at the libraries. Through Sept. 24, the Open House will again feature a digital badge — a visual representation of a skill of competency that has been learned — for all participants who complete the virtual event.

PA Center for the Book and Mary Gay Scanlon join 'Read Around the States'
The Library of Congress has launched "Read Around the States," an initiative featuring videos of U.S. Congress members presenting books recommended for young readers, followed by interviews with the authors. Pennsylvania Center for the Book's contribution features U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon of Pennsylvania's Fifth District reading from "The Other Side" by Jacqueline Woodson, illustrated by E.B. Lewis.

Reopening ceremony celebrates renovated Mary M. and Bertil E. Lofstrom Library
Students, faculty, staff and University representatives recently celebrated the reopening of the Mary M. and Bertil E. Lofstrom Library at Penn State Hazleton, officially ushering in a refreshed, state-of-the-art campus resource following a $7.6 million renovation project.

University Libraries' Manuel Ostos awarded 2021 José Toribio Medina award
Penn State University Libraries' librarian Manuel Ostos has been awarded the Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials' (SALALM) 2021 José Toribio Medina Award for authoring "Spanish-language print materials within academic consortia: assessing the impact of resource sharing in two academic libraries."

Libraries announces fall 2021 data analytics and visualization workshops
Beginning Sept. 24, Penn State University Libraries and the Cloud Services team at Penn State are offering a series of virtual workshops on data analytics and visualization. Sessions will highlight tools for business analytics (Power BI, Tableau) and cloud platforms for big data analytics (Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services).

Libraries to host virtual sessions on digital maps, geospatial data, software
In October, Penn State University Libraries will host virtual information sessions on geospatial data, digital maps, and software options for faculty, staff and students. New this semester is a session focused on the use of digital maps in both historical and contemporary teaching and research projects.
