Penn State head coach James Franklin has been named the 2016 Woody Hayes Award winner for College Football Coach of the Year as presented by the Touchdown Club of Columbus.

Orlando selects Driesse in women's soccer league college draft
"With the second pick in the fourth round of the 2017 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft, the Orlando Pride select Nickolette Driesse, Penn State University," NWSL commissioner Jeff Plush announced Thursday afternoon live from the JW Marriott. With Driesse being selected with the 32nd overall pick Thursday, the Nittany Lions have had at least one selection in every NWSL College Draft.

Five Nittany Lions named to All-Bowl teams
Five Nittany Lions earned spots on a variety of All-Bowl teams, led by running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver Chris Godwin. Barkley was a consensus selection on the All-Bowl teams, while Godwin was named first team by NCAA.com and Sports Illustrated and second team by Athlon.

Penn State ranked No. 5, place five on preseason All-American teams
Coming off their first Final Four appearance in 17 seasons the Penn State women's lacrosse team earned a preseason rank of No. 5 by Inside Lacrosse and had five players named to IL's preseason All-America teams on Tuesday.

Wrestler Jason Nolf named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week
Sophomore wrestler Jason Nolf has been named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week for the week ending Jan. 9. The honor is the second for Nolf, who won once last year, and the first for Penn State this season.

Tsang garners Big Ten honors
After capturing the all-around title at the season-opening Penn State quad meet, junior Briannah Tsang has been named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. This is the first Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honor for Tsang.

Bates named FWAA Freshman All-American
Freshman offensive lineman Ryan Bates was selected to the Football Writers Association of American (FWAA) team Monday. He was also selected as a Freshman All-American by USA Today and claimed spots on the All-Big Ten freshman team from BTN.com and ESPN.com.
