Penn State University Libraries, Tyler Arboretum, and Penn State Brandywine's Sustainovation Team recently hosted Nature Narratives, a nature-themed writing contest that celebrates the natural world.

Brandywine senior breaks program's all-time scoring record
Senior Nikki Velez etched her name at the top of Penn State Brandywine's all-time women's basketball scoring list as she poured in 29 points to break the program's all-time scoring record during the Lions' 88-66 victory at Penn State Fayette.

Libraries short stories fall 2019 contest winners announced
The winning writers of Penn State University Libraries Short Stories' "Brunchin' Around" fall 2019 contest have been announced. Representing seven Penn State campuses, the latest writing contest challenged Penn State students, faculty and staff across the commonwealth to unleash their best original short stories or poetry on the theme "Brunchin' Around."

Penn State Community Survey for all students, faculty and staff to launch Feb. 3
Launching on Feb. 3, the Penn State Community Survey is an opportunity for all students, faculty and staff members at Penn State's campuses to provide confidential feedback on their experiences and perspectives related to community, diversity and inclusion. Emails with unique survey links will be sent to students, faculty and staff on Feb. 3.

As Penn State's 10-year strategic plan approaches its halfway point, the University has reviewed and analyzed progress achieved thus far to inform and guide strategic planning at the institution and unit levels through 2025.

Penn State officials closely monitoring spread of coronavirus
Health and safety officials at Penn State are closely monitoring an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a new strain of coronavirus, termed "2019-nCoV," that was first detected in Wuhan, China, and has since spread to 20 other countries, including 15 confirmed cases in the United States.

University Staff Advisory Council accepting nominations for staff awards
The University Staff Advisory Council is seeking nominations for its annual Staff Recognition Awards. Nominations for the the Staff Excellence Award, the Staff Morale Award and the Staff Leadership Award are open through March 13.

This week's #Brandywinner is Marvellous Ibikunle! In addition to being involved in several campus clubs, Marvellous is a member of Brandywine's track and field team while also serving as a student worker in the admissions office.

Brandywine's MLK Day celebration
Last week, Brandywine celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day both on and off campus. Students, faculty, staff and community members participated in acts of kindness, educational activities and volunteer work on campus. Student-athletes visited Chester for a service project to distribute reusable shopping bags to reduce waste.

Abington campus community engages in dialogue about sustainability
Jerome Shabazz, executive director of the Overbrook Environmental Education Center, shared a broad overview of environmental justice with the Penn State Abington community on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The program engaged students, faculty and staff in a dialogue about sustainability as it pertains to the communities in which they reside and campus efforts to become more environmentally conscious. The goal is to educate and challenge the campus community to consider how to make a difference within their spheres of influence.
