Spring 2020 graduates celebrated with University-wide virtual commencement May 9
The Penn State alumni family grew by more than 15,000 this past weekend as the University recognized its spring 2020 graduates in a livestreamed commencement ceremony, which took place on Saturday, May 9.

Penn State Alumni Association welcomes new grads with complimentary membership
Like the members of previous graduating classes since the late 1960s, each member of Penn State's Class of 2020 will receive a complimentary year of membership in the Alumni Association, which has worked to keep the University's alumni network strong, powerful and connected for more than 150 years.

Alumni Association announces 2020-21 Young Alumni Ambassadors
The Penn State Alumni Association has selected 11 recent graduates as 2020-21 Young Alumni Ambassadors. These young alumni will share a yearlong experience aimed at developing their skills to become the University's future volunteer leaders.

Alumni Council pledges $10,000 in support to the Student Emergency fund
Continuing a long legacy of the Penn State Alumni Association's philanthropy to the University, Alumni Council has pledged $10,000 in support to the Penn State Student Care & Advocacy Emergency Fund.

Alumni Council election open until May 31
Penn State alumni are encouraged to vote to elect 10 members to represent them on Alumni Council, the governing board of the Penn State Alumni Association. Voting instructions for the all-online election were emailed to all alumni members of the Alumni Association for whom the Alumni Association has an email address on file. The election takes place May 11-31.

Penn State donates 10K pieces of personal protective equipment
Coordinated through the Office of the Senior Vice President of Research, more than 10,000 pieces of PPE have been gathered from the University Park campus and directed to the four main community health providers: Penn State University Health Services (UHS), Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Health St. Joseph's Medical Center and Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Researcher explores disinfectant strength, contact time against viruses
Cleaning products, alcohol-based sanitizers and other common chemicals are all being used on surfaces to try to kill the virus that causes COVID-19, but knowing how much to use and how long to use it for is unknown, according to Craig Meyers, distinguished professor of microbiology and immunology and obstetrics and gynecology, College of Medicine, Penn State, who is looking at testing these chemicals to find out.

Middle age may be much more stressful now than in the 1990s
A new Penn State study found that life may be more stressful now than it was in the 1990s, especially for people between the ages of 45 and 64.

Penn State recognized as sustainability leader in global impact ranking
Penn State was ranked third in the U.S. and 35th in the world in a broad multidimensional assessment of a university's research, community outreach and education and campus operations through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
