Penn State students awarded 2014 Pa. Farm Show scholarships
Ten Penn State students, including eight enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences, were among 25 who received scholarships from the Pennsylvania Farm Show Scholarship Foundation during the 98th Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg. The students were recognized before the show's Junior Livestock Auction and Sale of Champions on Jan. 7.

Donation to support Pennsylvania 4-H science programs
Penn State Extension's 4-H youth development program has received a $100,000 donation from Shell Oil Company to support the growth of 4-H science programming in 11 Pennsylvania counties in 2014. John Hines, government relations representative for Shell, presented the check to 4-H'ers during a ceremony held Jan. 6 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.

Ice Cream Short Course 2014
An international contingent of more 100 students are getting a "Cow to Cone" education on ice cream at Penn State this week as part of the College of Agricultural Sciences' Ice Cream Short Course. Students have come from 14 nations for the seven-day course. The annual program, now in its 119th year, offers more than 20 workshops on the likes of flavoring, refrigeration, freezing and hardening techniques, and the manufacture of frozen yogurt and novelty frozen desserts with Berkey Creamery as the laboratory. Offered each January, more than 4,400 have participated, including Ben and Jerry's founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield.

Penn State Extension's Marcellus Shale Gas Education Team will present two Web-based seminars this month.

Ross Pifer to present webinar as part of Marcellus Education Program
Penn State Extension will offer a webinar with Ross Pifer, clinical professor of law and director at the Agricultural Law Resource & Reference Center and the Rural Economic Development Clinic at the Dickinson School of Law. The event will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Jan. 23.
