New project to identify risk factors for sexual exploitation of children
A new project being undertaken by Penn State faculty members aims to examine the incident rates and factors for commercial sexual exploitation of children in Pennsylvania in hopes of developing early interventions for children most at risk.

'Beyond Politics' author presents social sciences role in climate mitigation
Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend a lecture by Michael Vandenbergh, co-author of "Beyond Politics" and the director of the Climate Change Resource Network, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 in 124 Business Building.

'Mechanisms of Mind' series kicks off Feb. 21 at the ADRI
The Arts and Design Research Incubator will launch its monthly series "Mechanisms of Mind" on Feb. 21. Moderated by Paula Droege, Penn State senior lecturer in philosophy, the series features speakers representing the arts, sciences and humanities who explore and discuss the cross-disciplinary connections between body and mind.

Free screening of 'Ghosts of Amistad' to take place Feb. 8
"Ghosts of Amistad: In the Footsteps of Rebels" —a documentary created by Tony Buba based on the book "The Amistad Rebellion: An Atlantic Odyssey of Slavery and Freedom" by Marcus Rediker — will be shown at 8 p.m. Feb. 8 at the State Theatre in State College. The screening and a Q&A session with Buba and Rediker are sponsored by the Penn State Department of African American Studies.

Family leave documentary screening, panel discussion set for Feb. 20
A screening of the new documentary "Zero Weeks" will be held at 6 p.m. on Feb. 20, in the John Bill Freeman Auditorium (117 HUB-Robeson Center) on Penn State's University Park campus. A panel discussion will follow. The event marks the first screening of the film in Pennsylvania and is free and open to the public.

Weiss receives Charles R. Darwin Lifetime Achievement Award
Kenneth Weiss, Evan Pugh University Professor Emeritus of Anthropology and Genetics, was awarded the Charles R. Darwin Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018 by the American Association of Physical Anthropologists.
