In May 2018, former Marine Robert Bussey enrolled in the Penn State Online MBA program, led by the Penn State Smeal College of Business and delivered by Penn State World Campus, to ultimately build a company from scratch after taking courses in the corporate innovation and entrepreneurship concentration.

Behrend chancellor receives honorary doctorate from Brno University
Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic has awarded an honorary doctorate to Penn State Behrend Chancellor Ralph Ford, who taught at Brno as a Fulbright Scholar. Previous recipients include Nikola Tesla and Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, the first president of Czechoslovakia.

RESEARCH:

Shelter, safest air intake locations during urban pollution events identified
Roofs and the downwind sides of buildings in street canyons have the lowest levels of particulate matter during a single-source pollution event, according to Penn State researchers. The findings have implications for improving evacuation plans during a pollution release as well as for informing ventilation system design of urban buildings.

'Everyone is Awesome' day highlights activities for Feb. 8 men's basketball game
"Everyone is Awesome" Day, a celebration of all individuals, is set for the Penn State men's basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 8, against Minnesota in the Bryce Jordan Center. More than 70 organizations supporting individuals with special needs will be involved with activities pregame, throughout the contest and at halftime.

Penn State shares latest coronavirus-related travel, health information
Penn State health and safety officials continue to monitor the outbreak of the novel 2019-nCoV coronavirus centered in the Wuhan province of China. While there have been no cases of the virus at any Penn State campus or anywhere in Pennsylvania at this time, the University is following federal and global recommendations from health agencies and the State Department and taking precautions to protect the health of students, faculty and staff.

Rosemary Schraer Mentoring Award nominations now open
Nominations are currently being sought for the 2020 Rosemary Schraer Mentoring Award, presented each year to a University employee, regardless of gender, who exemplifies Schraer's giving of herself as a mentor, and who has voluntarily, over a period of time, helped others recognize and achieve their potential. Submissions will be accepted until Feb. 7.

Visitors invited to interact with scenic design models on display Feb. 10-22
"Please Touch: Revitalizing Scenic Models Through Play," will be on view in the Woskob Family Gallery from Feb. 10 to 22. Created by Michael Schweikardt, a third-year master of fine arts candidate in theater, this exhibition will include design sets that viewers are encouraged to touch.

Researcher to discuss threats to machine learning and AI applications
A Penn State researcher will discuss the rapidly evolving use of machine learning in security-sensitive contexts at this month's CyberScience Seminar, sponsored by the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, which will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 10:30 a.m. in 233A of the HUB-Robeson Center. McDaniel will also explore why many of these systems are so vulnerable to these dangerous manipulations
