Passion drives tornado research for distinguished professor of meteorology

Paul Markowski has dedicated his 20-year career at Penn State to understanding tornadoes, particularly bettering predictors for when they’ll occur. But the mesoscale meteorologist admits he never saw this coming: He was recently named distinguished professor, one of three within the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and 13 at Penn State.  Full story

Researchers awarded grant to advance geothermal energy science

Parisa Shokouhi, associate professor of engineering science and mechanics, is working to predict possible breaks in underground geothermal energy reservoirs and how to mitigate the potential fallout. The U.S. Department of Energy's Basic Energy Sciences program has renewed the grant funding the work of her team for a total funding amount of nearly $1.2 million.  Full story
