Couple makes estate gift to the Center for Ethics and Civic Engagement
David M. and Marjorie Rosenberg, friends of Penn State Brandywine, have pledged an estate gift of $250,000 to the campus' Center for Ethics and Civic Engagement, which seeks to develop pathways for students to become socially responsible leaders and citizens who are prepared to create positive change in the world.

Brandywine students reflect on their four years of on-campus housing
When Penn State Brandywine opened its first residence hall in August 2017, it was a milestone in the campus' 53-year history. Four years later, hundreds of students have spent at least some time living in the 250-bed Orchard Hall, but at least half a dozen have resided there since it opened.

PBS to air Armenian genocide documentary co-written by Brandywine instructor
A documentary co-written by Penn State Brandywine Adjunct Instructor in English Mary McDermott about the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide will air on Philadelphia's public broadcasting station WHYY at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 8.

Impacts of the pandemic on anticipatory grief
Receiving a diagnosis from a doctor that explains your previously unexplainable symptoms can often bring about feelings of relief. But this year, the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, and its diagnosis has offered its targets no such comfort. In this post, Penn State Abington's Abigail Akande discusses experiences with anticipatory grief, and explains how they can vary just as widely as the experiences with typical grief.

COVID-19 and the potential costs of social isolation
The COVID-19 pandemic continues across the globe and in the United States. Currently, science and medicine offer clear methods on how to reduce the risk of transmission — including social distancing. Yet this behavior comes with a potential cost of reduced social connections and research has shown that losing social connections can be dangerous to both physical and psychological well-being, said Michael Bernstein, professor of psychology at Penn State Abington.

The Penn State community is invited to provide comments and questions related to the draft reports to co-chairs of the Select Penn State Presidential Commission on Racism, Bias, and Community Safety, and the Student Code of Conduct Task Force, in advance of a virtual town hall.

Student Engagement Network grant applications deadline extended to Dec. 18
The deadline to apply for a Student Engagement Network Remote Innovation Grant has been extended to Dec. 18. The grant covers costs for projects during the spring 2021 semester. Undergraduate students from all Penn State campuses are invited to apply for a grant, which is designed to support expenses related to completing an experience in the spirit of remote or in-person living and learning.

Nominations for Student Achievement Awards open Nov. 16 through Dec. 14
Penn State Student Affairs has announced that nominations for the Student Achievement Awards will be accepted from Nov. 16 through Dec. 14. The awards recognize undergraduate and graduate students for their outstanding achievements inside and outside of the classroom.

Nominations are being accepted for the 2021 President's Award for Excellence in Academic Integration, an honor recognizing faculty members who have exhibited extraordinary achievement in the integration of teaching and research or creative accomplishments, and service. Spring symposium, seed grants to promote transdisciplinary biodiversity research
The Sustainability Institute at Penn State is hosting transdisciplinary symposia on biodiversity throughout the spring 2021 semester. The virtual series, "Mainstreaming Biodiversity in the Decade of Action," aims to expand collaborative networks and to inspire creative strategies to promote biodiversity in urban, agricultural and natural areas in order to improve human and ecological health and well-being.
