From midnight on Sunday, Nov. 17, through 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, the Tackle Hunger Penn State vs. Ohio State Giving Challenge will raise money for each school's respective campus food pantries, which support students experiencing food insecurity.

14th annual President's Concert returns to Carnegie Hall
The Penn State School of Music returns to Carnegie Hall for the 14th annual President's Concert. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall.

Penn State raises goal and sights for 'Greater Penn State' campaign
In recognition of the fundraising campaign's record-breaking appeal among Penn State supporters, the University's Board of Trustees has endorsed a one-year extension of "A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence." The effort, which began on July 1, 2016, is now slated to conclude on June 30, 2022, and its overall goal has been raised from $1.6 billion to $2.1 billion.

Penn State set to open new Student Veteran Center
With the official ribbon cutting slated for Nov. 15, Penn State's student veterans will have a new place to call home at the University Park campus. The 6,300-square-foot center, housed in Ritenour Building, will consolidate and expand services, support and activities for student veterans in a central location on campus.

Alumnus who helped create Nittany Lion Shrine also accomplished WWII veteran
In this special military appreciation Throwback Thursday, Penn State remembers and honors the life and achievements of Col. David E. Pergrin — a Penn Stater who played a key role in creating the Nittany Lion Shrine, and a veteran who served in one of the most decorated U.S. Army units of World War II.

Penn State student-athletes deliver record 91% graduation rate
Penn State student-athletes posted their third consecutive NCAA Graduation Success Rate of 90% or higher. Ten teams earned a 100% Graduation Success Rate, with 20 squads above the overall Division I national average.

Sonsteby named executive director of Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory
Allan G. Sonsteby, deputy executive director of Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory (ARL), has been named the executive director of ARL, effective Dec. 1. He succeeds Paul Sullivan, who served as executive director for more than five years.

One avocado a day helps lower 'bad' cholesterol for heart healthy benefits
Move over, apples — new research from Penn State suggests that eating one avocado a day may help keep "bad cholesterol" at bay. According to Penn State researchers, bad cholesterol can refer to both oxidized low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and small, dense LDL particles.

New, slippery toilet coating provides cleaner flushing, saves water
In the Wong Laboratory for Nature Inspired Engineering, housed within the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Materials Research Institute, researchers have developed a method that dramatically reduces the amount of water needed to flush a conventional toilet, which usually requires 6 liters.
