The regional Science Olympiad features hands-on research challenges that test students' knowledge of physics, chemistry, optics and other scientific fields. More than 400 students participated in this year's event, which was hosted by Penn State Behrend.

The regional Science Olympiad includes competitions for both middle- and high-school students. North East High School won the upper bracket, advancing to the state tournament at Juniata College. Laurel Junior High School won the lower division.
