ERIE, Pa. — The end-of-semester "Trash to Treasure" indoor yard sale at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will again benefit bargain-hunters, the environment and United Way of Erie County.
Trash to Treasure is a Penn State initiative to keep the University community’s unwanted but still useful items out of the waste stream. The seventh annual local Trash to Treasure sale will be held in Penn State Behrend’s Erie Hall on Saturday, May 12. More than $3,000 was raised for United Way through last year's sale.
The sale opens at 7:30 a.m. on May 12; admission is $5 per person between opening and 9 a.m. Free admission will be offered from 9 a.m. until the sale’s end at noon. From 11 a.m. to noon, attendees can fill a bag for $5.
Donations will be accepted in Erie Hall during the weeks of April 30-May 4 and May 7-11, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Items being accepted include athletic equipment, clothing, non-perishable food, accessories, cleaning supplies, computers, light fixtures, carpets, toys, printers, fans, furniture, stereos and appliances. Televisions will not be accepted for donation this year.
All proceeds from Trash to Treasure benefit United Way of Erie County.
The bulk of the items to be sold at Trash to Treasure are donated by Penn State Behrend students as they move out of the college’s ten residence halls and nine apartment buildings.
