At least 100 Penn State students gathered on the Old Main lawn at midnight during the Feb. 5-6 snowstorm for a spontaneous, text-message-driven, THON-wide snowball battle. Other such groups had formed on the HUB lawn and in the West Halls quad throughout the wintery evening which brought at least 14 inches of snow to the State College area.

The popular activity was facilitated by the significant snowfall to fall around the Centre County region and the most of the state of Pennsylvania over the weekend, with more than a foot falling at University Park.
