Blue Band tryouts began early on the morning of Aug. 22 with basic marching instruction. The Penn State Blue Band held auditions for new candidates at the field adjacent to the Blue Band Building on Penn State's University Park campus beginning with musical auditions on Aug. 21 and continuing on Aug. 22 with informational meetings and field marching sessions.

Following a rigorous marching session, candidates trying out for the Penn State Blue Band found a partner to help stretch their hamstrings before continuing with more marching. The Penn State Blue Band conducted rookie marching sessions on Aug. 22 as part of a two-day audition for students trying out for the Band. The sessions for prospective new members were held at the Blue Band field adjacent to the Blue Band Building on Penn State's University Park campus and included music auditions, informational meetings and field marching instruction.

Candidates for the 2012 Penn State Blue Band worked through marching drills on Aug. 22 during day two of try outs.The session began with learning the basics of marching with the Blue Band and was folllowed by executing what was learned while playing an instrument.

As musicians auditioned for the 2012 Penn State Marching Blue Band on Aug. 22, candidates for the Penn State Silks tried out in another area of the Blue Band field located on Penn State's University Park campus. The Blue Band includes among it's ranks 14 Touch of Blue majorettes, a feature twirler, 34 silks, and a drum major.
