Penn State York students, faculty and staff volunteered to work at the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) South Central PA Regional Qualifier, a robotics competition, held at the York campus on Saturday, Jan. 29. Sixteen teams participated, and the alliance of Blitzer Bots (robot 4285) from Lancaster County and Craftsman (robot 3113) from Maryland won the competition and move on to the states competition on March 5 in Weatherly, Pa.

High scores were earned for balancing robots during the GET OVER IT! game. The object is to score more points by emptying baton dispensers filled with PVC tubes and achieving certain goals such as balancing on a bridge.

This robot, build by a Phoenixville Area High School team named Gear, works hard to empty as many batons as possible from the dispenser during the competition.

Robots were inspected by a team of trained volunteers prior to the start of the competition. Each robot has to meet a variety of criteria in order to compete. The robots were built by middle and high school students.
