Alumni couple's gift will help architectural engineering students study abroad

Architectural engineering students hoping to study abroad may get some help realizing their dream, thanks to a gift by a Penn State engineering couple in Florida. A new scholarship, the Beabout the World Study Abroad Scholarship in Architectural Engineering, will provide recognition and financial assistance to undergraduate architectural engineering students studying at the University Park campus who are passionate about exploring and engaging with their world.

Penn State teams up with Taiwanese university to create learning sciences center

Penn State University and National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) have developed a collaboration to establish the Advanced Center for the Study of the Learning Sciences. Under a proposal funded by the Taiwan National Science Council, center researchers will devise ways for educators to keep pace with rapidly changing information and technology in society. Behavioral and neuro-cognitive research will serve as focal points for the center’s work.

Global Programs initiative leads to students' Ireland trip

From Dublin in the Republic of Ireland to Belfast in Northern Ireland, Penn State New Kensington students experience a week of Irish culture over spring break in early March. Arranged by New Kensington faculty -- Abhinav Aima, instructor in communications; Gary Heberling, instructor in information sciences and technology; and Amy Rustic, reference librarian -- the international trip to five cities in Ireland was an opportunity for students to travel abroad and explore Irish customs that has been influenced by a variety of ancient peoples including the Normans and the British.

The academic year for the 11 Humphrey Fellows who worked and studied at Penn State this year may be drawing to a close, but its effects will continue. These international professionals are excited to build on the skills and knowledge that they attained through the Humphrey Fellowship Program.

Students in Barbara Cantalupo’s comparative literature course are scheduled to present video memoirs of their trip to Rome at 1 p.m. April 19 and 22, in Penn State Lehigh Valley's auditorium This event is free and open to the public. Cannoli will be served.

Darcy McKinley Lester does not like baked beans and spaghetti on toast for breakfast, but she said that dish is hard to avoid when you study abroad in Australia. The Mechanicsburg, Pa., native studied at the Australian National University in Canberra last spring.
