Reminder: Nittany Lion Shrine closed for renovations this summer starting May 13

Beginning May 13, Penn State's Nittany Lion Shrine will be closed to visitors this summer for renovations to improve lighting, accessibility and landscaping. Depending on many variables that can impact the progress of the work, including weather, there may be limited access from between summer commencement and Sept. 6, the target completion date of the project.

Traffic signal disabled at Curtin Road and University Drive

The traffic signal at the intersection of Curtin Road and University Drive on Penn State's University Park campus was disabled this afternoon (Feb. 12) after construction crews accidentally hit a power line. Temporary stop signs have been placed at the intersection and police are monitoring traffic flow as crews work to restore power. Commuters who normally pass through the intersection on their way to and from campus are encouraged to take an alternate route today if possible.

Campus to close for winter break on Dec. 21; art gallery open

Penn State New Kensington will close at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, and reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2. The first day of classes for the spring semester is Monday, Jan. 7. The Art Gallery and the East Suburban Artists League exhibit will be open from noon to 5 p.m. through the holiday break except for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Greater Allegheny campus announces holiday schedule

Penn State Greater Allegheny will be closed for the holidays beginning Saturday, Dec. 22, and will reopen for business at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2. Fall commencement will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in the Wunderely Gymnasium.

Spring parking permits for students available Dec. 4

Beginning at 8 a.m. Dec. 4, students who reside on campus or off campus and do not have a current permit or those who have already registered with a permit valid for the fall semester only may register for spring 2013 at the Parking Office, Room 1, Eisenhower Parking Deck or by going online.

Students registering in person must have their Student ID+ card and license plate information with them. Students already registered with a spring semester permit who would like to change their lot assignment must register in person at the Parking Office beginning at 8 a.m. Dec. 4.

Homecoming activities may mean heavy traffic for Saturday game

Motorists who are planning to travel to State College, Pa., tomorrow (Oct. 6) for Penn State's game against Northwestern should leave more time than normal to arrive. Penn State Homecoming activities are in full swing this weekend and traffic may be heavier as a result. Stadium parking lots will open at 7 a.m. for the 12:01 p.m. kickoff; University Police will be on hand to direct traffic. When severe weather strikes Penn State's University Park community, individuals can stay informed of delays and changes by using Penn State's PSUTXT system, Facebook page and news website. Local television and radio stations also will inform the public.

University Park transportation needs all on one website

Traveling to, from and through University Park is a system that includes buses, cars and bicycles using hundreds of roads, parking lots and sidewalks. The Transportation website simplifies it all to help Penn Staters get to where they need to go.

Bicycle roundup has begun on University Park campus

The Penn State Parking Office has announced that the annual bicycle round up will begin on Monday, June 4. Unregistered bicycles that have been previously tagged and recorded by parking enforcement will be considered to be abandoned. If there is a lock on the bicycle and it is in the same location where it was tagged, the lock will be removed and the bicycle will be confiscated. Only bicycles that do not have a valid bicycle permit and are on university property will be affected.

Curtin Road to close from May 7 to Aug. 10 for construction

Beginning Monday, May 7, sections of Curtin Road between Bigler Road and University Drive on the University Park campus will be closed for the installation of chilled water lines. Construction will take place in phases, running consecutively from May 7 to Aug. 10. Parking areas at Wagner, Shields and IM buildings will be affected, as will the Campus Shuttle and several CATA bus routes.

Parking, traffic changes announced as Blue/White Weekend approaches

Several changes will take place in University Park campus commuter parking areas to make way for the annual Blue/White Carnival. The carnival will be set up in the section of Lot Stadium West directly adjacent to the stadium and Curtin Road. This section of the lot will be closed from 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, through 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 22.

Parking information for Paterno viewing and memorial services

Penn State has released parking information for those planning to travel to University Park this week for Joe Paterno's public viewing and memorial service. Paterno, 85, died Sunday, Jan. 22.

Midnight Clear called for tonight (Jan. 20)

The Office of Physical Plant (OPP) at Penn State's University Park campus has declared a Midnight Clear for tonight (Jan. 20). As a result, parking will be restricted in surface parking lots from midnight to 7 a.m. on Jan. 21, with some exceptions. According to weather reports, about 4 inches of snow is expected to fall in State College tonight.

Portion of Curtin Road to close Jan. 4-6 on University Park campus

From Jan. 4-6, Curtin Road on Penn State's University Park campus will be closed from University Drive to Bigler Road, to allow for the installation of a gas line near Shields Building. Commuters will be able to access lot Orange E (near Shields Building) from University Drive only. Those who wish to access lot Orange D (near Wagner Building) and Orange M (near the Intramural Building), must enter Curtin Road from Bigler Road. CATA bus routes and the Campus Shuttle route will be affected.

Spring 2012 student vehicle registration begins Dec. 6

Beginning on Dec. 6, University Park students who want to register their automobile for the 2012 spring semester may submit their registration online or in person at the Parking Office, located in the Eisenhower Parking Deck.
