New donation, football seating options announced

Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics and the Nittany Lion Club announced new donation and football seating options for fans, as plans were unveiled Wednesday (Oct. 3) for the 2013 season. The NLC will encourage members to participate in the One Team Commitment, a first-time, five-year commitment for NLC membership, which allows members to earn significant NLC bonus points each year while demonstrating their longer-term support to the University's more than 800 student-athletes, competing for 31 varsity teams.

Lady Lions to appear on national TV at least 10 times in 2012-13

The defending Big Ten Champion Penn State women's basketball team will appear on national television at least 10 times during the regular season in 2012-13, as announced recently by the Big Ten Conference office. The Lady Lions are scheduled to have three games televised on ESPN2 and at least seven contests on the Big Ten Network. In addition to the television arrangements, the Big Ten also announced game times for the 2012-13 season. The Lady Lions open their schedule with an exhibition game against California (Pa.), which is coached by former Lady Lion Jess Strom, as part of a women's-men's doubleheader at 2 p.m. Sat., Nov. 3.

Men's basketball tip times and TV announced

The Penn State men's basketball team will have at least 23 games televised to a national audience in the 2012-13 season, including at least 12 appearances on the Big Ten Network and nine on the ESPN networks, it was revealed when the Big Ten announced tip times and television arrangements for the conference on Wednesday (Sept. 26).

Stadium upgrades include WiFi, mobile app, added parking options

Fans will see several upgrades in and around Beaver Stadium when they attend Penn State Football Eve Friday (7 p.m.) and the season-opener against Ohio on Saturday (noon kick). Gameday parking lots will open Saturday at 7 a.m. and Coach Bill O'Brien and the Nittany Lions will arrive at Beaver Stadium's south tunnel at approximately 9:15 a.m. The team buses will use the same route on campus as in previous years. The student gate will open at 10 a.m. and stadium public gates will open at 10:30 a.m.

Women's volleyball to be featured on BTN, ESPN2

The Penn State women's volleyball team will have at least eight televised matches during the 2012 season. The Nittany Lions will be featured on the Big Ten Network seven times and also have one match broadcast on ESPN2.

Field hockey to make multiple appearances on BTN

BTN will televise more field hockey this season than ever before, with at least 15 matches set to air on BTN, including for the first time each round of the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament. Each BTN broadcast will also be available on BTN2Go. The field hockey season on BTN begins on Friday, Sept. 21, when defending Big Ten Tournament Champion Penn State hosts Indiana. BTN's live coverage of field hockey includes a game every Friday, culminating with the Big Ten Tournament final on Sunday, Nov. 4.

Big Ten Network airs first of three Penn State Days on Wednesday

The Big Ten Network will air some of the Nittany Lions' most memorable victories and conference championships on Wednesday and Thursday, June 20-21, with 25 consecutive hours of Penn State programming. The Penn State men's basketball, football, wrestling and women's track and field teams will be featured on the first of three Penn State Days this summer on BTN. Penn State Day begins Wednesday at 6 a.m. and ends Thursday at 7 a.m. The Nittany Lions also will be featured on BTN on July 11 and Aug. 2 with different programming.

Nittany Lion wrestlers honored during Big Ten Awards Show

The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team was honored by the Big Ten Conference as the Big Ten's 2011-12 Men's Team of the Year. Penn State head coach Cael Sanderson also was tabbed as the 2011-12 Big Ten Men's Head Coach of the Year. For the Nittany Lions, it was the team's second straight Big Ten Men's Team of the Year honor. The Lions rode three national champions and six All-Americans to their second straight NCAA title. Sanderson's second Coach of the Year honor comes after guiding Penn State to its second straight NCAA and Big Ten titles as well as its second straight Southern Scuffle Championship.

Bill O'Brien feature set for HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel

Penn State football coach Bill O'Brien, who earned three national Coach of the Year honors in 2012, will be profiled on HBO's Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel. The feature story on O'Brien will debut on Tuesday, May 21 at 10 p.m. ET and re-air several times on HBO and HBO2 through June 8. The program also will be available on HBO On Demand from May 27-June 17.

On the heels of the women's outdoor track and field team earning its fourth Big Ten Championship in the last six years, Penn State athletic programs have won a school-record eight Big Ten titles, including a record seven regular season crowns, during a tremendous 2012-13 athletic season. Also, the Nittany Lions' 13 Big Ten titles is the most in the 2011-13 two-year span, leading all other conference schools.

The Penn State Lady Lions have been recognized as the 2013 Play 4Kay Division I winner for their efforts in the national effort to raise breast cancer awareness and raise funds in the fight against breast cancer. The Play 4Kay initiative is a national fundraising effort is in memory of former North Carolina State University head coach Kay Yow, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and battled the disease until 2009.

Annual CVC Golf Tournament set for May 31

The 17th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Tournament will take place Friday, May 31 at the Penn State Blue and White Golf Courses. It will be the fourth event on Coaches vs. Cancer-Penn State's 2012-13 calendar as the organization nears eclipsing $2 million in total funds raised.

Studevent, Hadlock, Winiarski, Chang, Carrier named 2013 Oswald Award winners

Five Penn State students in their respective areas of leadership have been honored with the 2013 John W. Oswald Award. Gizelle Studevent is the recipient in the field of athletics; John Hadlock, creative/performing arts; Kristin Winiarski, journalism; Rachel Chang, representing scholarship; and Bridgette Carrier, social services. The John W. Oswald Award, established in 1983, annually recognizes graduating seniors who have provided outstanding leadership in at least one of several areas of activity at the University. The award consists of a medallion honoring John W. Oswald, president of the University from 1970 to 1983.

Januskova, Urschel honored with 2013 McCoy Award

Tennis player Petra Januskova and football player John Urschel have been selected as the 2013 recipients of the Ernest B. McCoy Memorial Award. The McCoy Award is presented annually to one senior female and one senior male student-athlete who have combined successful athletic participation with academic excellence. The award is named for the longtime dean of Penn State’s College of Physical Education, who also served as the University’s athletic director.
