Studevent named to Allstate WBCA Good Works Team

Penn State Lady Lion senior Gizelle Studevent (La Jolla, Calif.) has been selected to the inaugural Allstate WBCA Good Works Team as announced on Tuesday (Feb. 26). The team is composed of 10 women's basketball student-athletes who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement.

Midfielder Nick Dolik (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) was named a nominee for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award on Wednesday (Feb. 20). Dolik is the second Nittany Lion in as many years to be nominated for the award after Matthew Mackrides was a finalist.

Penn State Shenango's auditorium was filled to capacity Feb. 13 at the Friends of Penn State Shenango Alumni Society Dinner featuring guest speaker Nittany Lion football coach Bill O'Brien. O'Brien spoke about Penn State football, his dedicated players and the respect he has for the University. His humble yet inspiring words were highly received by Penn State alumni and friends. Athletic Director Dave Joyner and Alumni Relations Executive Director Roger Williams, who were part of the program, also gave motivating remarks to the crowd.

Chambers announces THON donation pledge

With his Nittany Lions taking on Iowa Thursday (Feb. 14) night on the eve of the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON), Penn State coach Patrick Chambers has pledged to donate $10 to THON 2013 for every Penn State student that attends the 9 p.m. clash in the Bryce Jordan Center. The game will be televised live by ESPNU.

THON documentary to air on Big Ten Network on Feb. 12

Audiences nationwide will get a behind-the-scenes look at the largest student-run philanthropy in the world when a documentary on Penn State's IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, better known as THON, debuts on the Big Ten Network this month.

"Why We Dance: The Story of THON," from Penn State Public Broadcasting (PSPB), will air at 10 p.m. Feb. 12, just days before THON 2013 officially kicks off.

Final TV arrangements announced for No. 8/9 Lady Lions

The No. 8/9 Penn State Lady Lions (18-3, 8-1 Big Ten) will appear on the Big Ten Network for the final two games of the conference schedule, it was announced by the Big Ten Wednesday (Feb. 6). Penn State's game at Minnesota on Thursday, Feb. 28 will air at 9 p.m. (ET) and the season finale at Nebraska on Sunday, March 3 will air at 6 p.m. (ET) as the final game of a four-game set on the BTN.

O'Brien, Rhule to speak at National Football Foundation awards dinner

Two collegiate football coaches with local ties, Penn State's Bill O'Brien and Temple's Matt Rhule, will be co-featured speakers March 17 at the 16th annual football awards banquet sponsored by the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame.

The banquet honors the athletic and academic achievements of high school football players in central Pennsylvania and players from 10 area colleges. Special awards also recognize high school and college coaches, game officials and a member of the news media.

Former Nittany Lion Dave Robinson elected to Pro Football Hall of Fame

Former Penn State All-America end Dave Robinson has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2013. The announcement was made Feb. 2 in New Orleans, site of Super Bowl XLVII.

Robinson will become the sixth member of the Penn State Football family to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, joining Jack Ham, Franco Harris, August Michalske, Lenny Moore and Mike Munchak. Munchak, head coach of the Tennessee Titans, was Penn State's last inductee, in 2001.

Penn State Coaches Clinic set for March 22, 23

Head coach Bill O'Brien and his staff will welcome several hundred coaches from across the nation for the Penn State Annual Football Coaches Clinic, set for March 22 and 23 at University Park.

The clinic will feature two days of lectures and demonstrations by the Nittany Lions' staff, led by O'Brien, who directed Penn State to wins in eight of its final 10 games last fall and a 6-2 Big Ten record. In his first season as head coach, O'Brien was selected for the Bear Bryant, Maxwell Football Club and ESPN National Coach of the Year and the Big Ten-Dave McClain Coach of the Year.

The Penn State Lady Lions will host their fourth annual basketball clinic for Special Olympics PA athletes, unified partners and coaches from Centre, Blair, Mifflin and Juniata counties on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Shrive earns Uplifting Athletes Rare Disease Champion Award

Penn State Football student-athlete Eric Shrive (Scranton) has been selected for the 2013 Uplifting Athletes Rare Disease Champion Award. A redshirt junior offensive lineman, Shrive has raised nearly $70,000 for kidney cancer patients and research during his Penn State career.

The honor is presented annually to recognize a leader in the world of college football who has realized his or her potential to make a positive and lasting impact on the rare disease community. More than 30 million Americans are affected by rare diseases.

Trio of Nittany Lions selected to NFF's Hampshire Honor Society

A trio of former Penn State football student-athletes have been selected to the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society for the 2012 season. Seniors Mike Farrell (Pittsburgh), Pete Massaro (Newtown Square) and Matt Stankiewitch (Orwigsburg) were selected for the honor. Penn State's three honorees were tied for second-highest among Big Ten Conference institutions.

Bill O'Brien will tee it up alongside host Patrick Chambers with one lucky foursome at the 17th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Tournament, Friday, May 31, at the Penn State Blue and White Golf Courses. The pairing of the Penn State football and men's basketball coaches highlights a strong field of celebrity captains that will be among approximately 300 golfers and 60 groups participating in the event that will push CVC-Penn State past the $2 million mark in total funds raised since the organization's inception in 1996.

Former Penn State Lady Lion Gizelle Studevent (La Jolla, Calif.) has added the title of author to her resume with the printing of her book "Bridges," which is on sale now at Amazon.com. The 278-page book was written during Studevent's time at Penn State and shares her personal journey that includes overcoming near-fatal car accident and a battle against bullying in high school to become a community leader and the creator of anti-bullying program Penn State Athletes Take Action (PSATA).

Penn State Lady Lion basketball coach Coquese Washington has been elected as vice president/president-elect of the Executive Committee for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years. She will automatically succeed Florida State's Sue Semrau as president in 2015-16 for a two-year term.

Dolik earns USILA Scholar All-America nod

Penn State men's lacrosse senior midfielder Nick Dolik (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) was named a Scholar All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) on Wednesday (May 22) morning. Dolik is the seventh Nittany Lion to achieve the recognition and the second under head coach Jeff Tambroni.

The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team, under the guidance of head coach Cael Sanderson, continued to collect national laurels with the announcement of the NWCA's (National Wrestling Coaches Association) National All-Academic First Team. The 2013 NCAA Champions have four NWCA first team Academic All-Americans as the squad placed in the top 10 in total team GPA.

Two of Penn State's top student-athletes will receive prestigious NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarships, the Association announced Tuesday (May 21). Gymnast Scott Rosenthal (Clearfield, Pa.) and wrestler Quentin Wright (Wingate, Pa.) were each honored with the award, which carries a $7,500 scholarship for postgraduate study at the university or professional school of the student-athletes choice.

A quartet of Penn State student-athletes earned 2013 Capital One Academic All-District® At-Large selections from College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). On the men's side, wrestler Matt Brown was the lone Penn State honoree, while all three nominated student-athletes from the women's side earned first-team distinction; field hockey forward Kelsey Amy, lacrosse midfielder Tatum Coffey and swimmer Gabi Shishkoff.

Bill O'Brien feature set for HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel

Penn State football coach Bill O'Brien, who earned three national Coach of the Year honors in 2012, will be profiled on HBO's Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel. The feature story on O'Brien will debut at 10 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 21, and re-air several times on HBO and HBO2 through June 8. The program also will be available on HBO On Demand May 27-June 17.

Penn State earns school-record 8th Big Ten Championship

On the heels of the women's outdoor track and field team earning its fourth Big Ten Championship in the last six years, Penn State athletic programs have won a school-record eight Big Ten titles, including a record seven regular season crowns, during a tremendous 2012-13 athletic season. Also, the Nittany Lions' 13 Big Ten titles is the most in the 2011-13 two-year span, leading all other conference schools.
